In 2006 HI-CAP Nepal/ USA was established as a tax exempt foundation to assist the people with projects such as a medical system, clean drinking water, assistance for the elderly during the winter months, education and an orphanage. At this time, together with our partner HI-CAP UK, we have established an orphanage in Pohhara for the children of Mustang. We now have twenty-nine orphans and this past winter we were able to purchase a washing machine. The orphanage is run by Psang Lama – Head monk at the Choede Monestary in Lomantang. HI-CAP /USA was able to provide funds to build another room onto the existing one room clinic as well as provide bandages and basic medicines. A local dentist contributed toothbrushes and toothpaste.
HI-CAP Nepal/ USA has no religious nor political connections. It is our belief we should not force our beliefs on another culture in exchange for the necessities of life. No HI-CAP board members receive any remuneration.
HI-CAP Nepal/ USA Goals:
1. Assist with development of healthcare systems which encompass both western medicine’ and traditional Tibetan medicine. In discussions with the king and Amchi, our ultimate goal is a seven room clinic and trained local regional health care workers.
2. Assist - Construction of clean water source to Lomontang.
(the pipe had deteriorated and is held together in places by rags)
3. Promotion and help – Providing education for the children
(children far from civilization were eager to practice their English)
4. Development of a system to promote adequate shelter, food, clothing for the elderly during the winter. (they well pass on the traditions)
5. Assist – Development of co-operations to help the people of Mustang sell their unique goods and crafts to a world market.
